A drawing of Alternative Ramp A. It was never considered as a alternative because it was later found that it would disrupt over 12 sites alone
From the official opening of Highway designation 3 [H-3] on December 12th 1997 it has successfully served commuters to Kaneohe and has never had any major impacts besides the intended growth in population on the Windward side. H-3 was also named one of the most beautiful and scenic interstates in the world. It continues to serve to this very day. Many who worked on the H-3 thought it was a logistical nightmare. Planning, alternatives, and constant obstacles in the final construction showed the willingness of the Federal government and State of Hawaii to do whatever is necessary to keep project H-3 alive.
